About this event
Many funders, including UKRI, are increasingly asking for a narrative CV, rather than the traditional list-based academic CV. A narrative CV requires researchers to provide different information in a new way and needs to be tailored for each call. This narrative statement shifts the emphasis away from quantitative measures of research performance to value the diversity of a researcher’s work and their contributions to the broader research environment.
In this session we will explore how this initiative has been piloted by different funding bodies and outline the support available at the University for researchers as they approach this new method of presenting their skills and experience.
There will be a panel of researchers who have already engaged with narrative CVs who will discuss how to approach writing them and some of the challenges they faced. The session will help researchers and PS staff supporting the academic community to consider how best to tell their story.
The panel will include:
• Dr Eva Vilella-Figueras, UKRI Research Fellow, Department of Physics
• Professor Jonathan Sharples, Professor of Ocean Sciences, Department of Earth, Ocean and Ecological Sciences
• Dr Kathryn Scott, Research Funding and Development Manager, HLS Research and Impact Directorate
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Understand why and how narrative CVs are being introduced by some funders
Feel confident to approach writing a narrative CV
Recognise some of the key challenges for writing a narrative CV
Know where to find assistance when writing a narrative CV
